Description
On Christmas Eve, young Maria receives a Nutcracker from her godfather Drosselmeyer, and after a party, she witnesses a battle between her toys, led by the Nutcracker, and an army of mice led by the Mouse King. Maria throws her shoe at the Mouse King to save the Nutcracker. After a feverish night, she is told it was a dream, but the Mouse King demands her sweets and cookies in exchange for the Nutcracker’s safety. When she has nothing left, the Nutcracker asks for a sword. He defeats the Mouse King. Revealed to be Drosselmeyer’s nephew, the Nutcracker takes Maria to the magical Candy Kingdom, where she is celebrated as a hero. Though no one believes her story, the Nutcracker’s nephew promises to return for her when she is older, and they eventually marry and live happily ever after in the Candy Kingdom.
